The time to file to run for an office in 2026 is fast approaching. Candidates must file a “Certificate of Announcement” between Jan. 12th and Jan. 31st of 2026. Yikes!
So you’re thinking… I really don’t like our current government. It’s not working for me! Prices (grocery/electricity/housing/health insurance) are going up, and most of my tax payer money seems to be going toward dubious causes, like war with Venezuela, exporting American citizens, building ICE detention centers and the like. But, the President is not on the ballot, so there’s no point in running, and there’s no point in voting.
NOT TRUE!! Republicans have given a gift to Democrats (though not to the American public at large). They have put forth preposterous plans for health care, while simultaneously allowing the extended Premium Tax Cuts to expire. And they expect $1,000 or $1,500 to make up the difference. That, to be honest, doesn’t even cover the increased cost of the cheapest plan available. And it just tells us that they don’t care. Congressional Republicans have their health care covered, and that’s all they care about.
Meanwhile, the President thinks “affordability” is a hoax. He’s another one seriously out of touch, as his biggest worry seems to be how he’ll get his gaudy ballroom built. He’s never had to buy his own food, or work out his own budget. He was born with a gold spoon in his mouth, and so much money that he can afford to be bankrupt, over and over, and still get by. And all he cares about is looking strong and maintaining his power over congress. Bah! What about being a President for the PEOPLE!
So, Steven Wendelin is running for the U.S. House, 2nd district. He’s done this before. He knows the ropes, and he can help anyone thinking of running for other offices with the basic logistics. Our Democratic club can put you in touch with him. And if you’re not ready to run for the U.S. Senate, consider running for the state House or state Senate. Those positions are incredibly important! Any elected official has the potential to help push back against the wildly unpopular Republicans. Even in this reddest of red states, the population at large is starting to understand the stakes.
Perhaps you can run for School Board. This is incredibly important now that Lifewise Academy is trying to usher in the era of (White) Christian Nationalism “through the back door” so to speak. Take a look at seculareducationassociation.org to get an understanding of this issue. It’s BIG! But it has to be handled carefully.
In any event, if you are fed up with the current government at any and/or all levels, come to a meeting of the Democratic Club and find out how you can take action. Democracy is most definitely NOT a spectator sport. Believing it is is how we got into this mess in the first place.
